Box Score
BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Concord University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday at West Virginia Wesleyan to open up West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Mountain Lions fell 25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20.

Sarah Jones had 12 kills, five digs, four blocks and one ace in the loss. Brytni Willis added nine kills, five digs and an ace of her own while Kylie Perdue chipped in five kills and four blocks as well. Amanda Walker and Nikki McMillan both passed out 15 assists with Walker also serving up three aces.

Other contributors for Concord (3-10, 0-1 WVIAC) included Lindsey Smith and Jasmin Sutherland. Smith registered 19 digs and Sutherland had four blocks and three kills.

The Mountain Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening set thanks in part from two aces from Walker. CU was able to maintain its lead for much of the set until West Virginia Wesleyan went on a 8-2 run when the score was 14-8, to tie the set at 16-16. From there, the two teams traded points until Wesleyan was able to pull away for the 25-23 win.

After never leading in its 25-14 loss in set two, Concord regrouped to take the third set 25-23. Concord opened up a 10-5 lead before Wesleyan once again tied things up at 16-16. However, unlike the first set, Concord was able to pull away with its own 25-23 win behind a Mountain Lion charge that included four kills from Jones.

Concord led early in the fourth set (5-4), but once West Virginia Wesleyan took the lead at 6-5 it never looked back on its way to the 25-20 set win and the 3-1 match victory.

West Virginia Wesleyan was led by Korin Wengryn, who had a game-high 19 kills.

Concord returns home for the first time in nearly a month when it hosts the Mountain Lion Triangular Sept. 24. Concord is scheduled to play West Virginia Tech at 3:00 p.m. and Emory & Henry at 7:00 p.m.
