ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team ended its weekend with a 2-1 loss to Kutztown University Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field. The loss drops Concord's record to 0-1-1 on the season. Kutztown improved to 1-1-0 with the victory.
The Mountain Lions were led by
Alyanna James, who scored her first goal of the season and third of her career, Sunday.
Kari Simon also registered one shot on the afternoon. Goalie Kaitlyn Waslyko played all 90 minutes for Concord, stopping seven Golden Bear shots.
Concord played Kutztown even for the opening 35 minutes until Rae Carpenter snuck a shot past Waslyko to give Kutztown a 1-0 lead that it would keep heading into halftime.
The Mountain Lions responded early in the second half when James came away with a goal at the 46:10 mark in the game to tie CU with Kutztown at 1-1. However, the tie game would be short lived as Taylor Higgins scored the go-ahead goal just 48 seconds later for Kutztown. Concord was unable to respond and Kutztown hung on for the narrow 2-1 victory.
Concord will now embark on a three-game road trip, starting with a match at Tusculum Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
