Women’s Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw vs. ESU

Box Score
ATHENS, W. Va. Kari Simon scored a goal in the 10th minute of the first period to help lead the Concord University women's soccer team to a 1-1 draw vs. East Stroudsburg Saturday on day one of the Concord Kickoff Classic.

Despite facing a 20-4 and 9-2 disadvantage in shots and corners, respectively, Concord (0-0-1) was able to play outstanding defense and limit the Warriors (0-0-1) to just one goal on the day.

Alyanna James assisted on Simon's goal while goalie Kaitlyn Waslyko made eight saves in her debut for the Mountain Lions.

Simon's score came at 10:42 in the first half. From there on out it was a defensive effort by Concord that saw Waslyko make great saves, the Concord defense clear corners and thwart what could have been several good scoring opportunities for East Stroudsburg.

However, ESU did manage to get on the board when L. Buchanan-Dwyer scored an unassisted ball at 88:32 in the second half. The two teams would combine for just three shots in the two overtime periods with the game ending in a 1-1 tie.

James, Melissa Woo Ling and Abby Barber also recorded shots for CU on Saturday.

Concord will look for its first win of the season when it hosts Kutztown 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the final game of the Concord Kickoff Classic. Kutztown fell 1-0 to Tusculum in overtime on Saturday.
