After a slow start, the Concord men's golf team settled down to stand in 5th place after Monday's first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional tournament in Hershey, PA.

As a unit, Concord was 27 over par on the front nine, but recovered to go only 14 over on the back nine, at the par-71, 6984-yard Hershey Country Club East Course.

The Mountain Lions totaled a 313, 12 shots back of the first round leader, Wilmington University (DE).

Taylor Reilly was CU's top individual player, firing a +4 75 to tie for 8th place on the leaderboard.

Evan Muscari tied for 20th after 78, while Sebastian Starud and Matt Morgan each carded an 80 to tie for 38th.  Nathaniel Begley tied for 64th after shooting an 83.

Reilly (right) found trouble early in his round, including a triple-bogey seven on the 3rd hole.  He turned things around with a birdie on #5 before closing out the front nine with back-to-back bogeys.  The freshman from Winnipeg, Manitoba jetted into the top ten by firing an even-par 35 on the back nine.

Muscari was five over on the front nine, then went one under from holes 10-15.  His day came to an end with three straight bogeys.

Starud stumbled with back-to-back double bogeys on #2 and #3 and was nine over through 13 holes.  But he closed out his round with five straight pars.  Morgan avoided highs and lows, shooting a 40 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine.  Begley shot a 39 after the turn, including a birdie on #12.

"We had a very rough start but the guys pulled it together and posted a solid round, said CU assistant coach.  "We played the back nine well for the conditions. The front nine was played in good scoring weather, but by the back nine it rained and the temperature dropped about ten degrees. The weather for tomorrow looks to be even worse.
"It was tough for everyone, but our guys grinded hard and showed determination.  We're in a good position."

Concord's players were among the first groups on Monday, but have later tee times for Tuesday's second round.  Muscari starts at 12:00 pm, Begley at 12:10, Reilly at 12:20, Starud at 12:30 and Morgan at 12:40.

The Mountain Lions started Monday's round from the 1st hole but will begin from the 10th hole on Tuesday.
