Concord's baseball team returned to the win column in a big way Friday afternoon, rolling past Ohio Valley 18-3 in a WVIAC South Division matchup at Bennett-Stump Field in Parkersburg, WV.

The Mountain Lions erupted for 22 hits – 12 for extra bases -- and scored at least two runs in five innings, including a game-breaking six-run rally in the 8th.

Ian Humphrey (on cover) led the CU offense by going 4-6 with a double, a home run and seven RBIs.  Randy Beard (below right) went 4-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and a stolen base.

Starting pitcher Ryan Weatherholtz (left) benefitted from the run support, scattering ten hits and striking out nine in his third complete-game victory of the season.

The Mountain Lions took the game's first lead in the top of the 2nd, helped by a pair of errors on Fighting Scots 3B Tyler Proctor.  The first was a two-base miscue off the bat of Ryan Johnston; the second allowed Devin Smith to reach base and put Johnston at third.  Beard followed with an RBI single to put CU ahead 1-0.

Concord moved 3-0 in the 4th on RBI singles from Humphrey and Jerrod Groves.  Ohio Valley got within 3-2 with a pair of runs in the 5th, but then the Mountain Lions' offense found another gear.

Concord sent ten batters to the plate in the 8th to blow the game open.  Humphrey's two-run single highlighted the six-run rally, which also featured an RBI double from Beard and run-scoring singles from Johnston, Groves and Keith Morrisroe.

CU put the finishing touches on the outcome with three runs in the 9th, on Joel Gattoni's solo home run and a two-run shot from Humphrey.

Brockway and Johnston would finish with three hits each, while Groves and Bret Blevins added two apiece.

Concord (13-22, 9-11) will wrap up its three-game series at Ohio Valley with a seven-inning doubleheader tomorrow – Saturday, April 7.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
