MEN'S GOLF: BEST OF THE DAY

CU 3rd AT SOUTHERN REGIONAL; STARUD, MUSCARI, MORGAN NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE

The Concord men's golf team found its form in Tuesday's second and final round of the WVIAC Southern Regional, moving up to finish 3rd in the 13-team field at Berry Hills Country Club in South Charleston, WV.

The Mountain Lions totaled a 294, the lowest round of the day.  What's more, Matt Morgan (left) carded the best individual score, firing a 71 that lifted him to 2nd place in the Medalist chase.

Concord finished the tournament with a team score of 609, 13 shots back of the 1st place University of Charleston.  Bluefield State was 2nd, two shots better than CU.


Morgan's 71 put him at 147 for the tournament, one shot back of Cameron Beckner of Shepherd.  In all, five players finished within four shots of the lead.

Nathaniel Begley shot a 75 Tuesday, tying for 11th place at 152.  Evan Muscari and Sebastian Starud each carded a 74 – after each shot an 81 Monday – to tie for 17th at 155.  Taylor Reilly posted an 82 on Tuesday to finish in 44th place at 166.

After the tournament, the WVIAC named its 2011-12 All-Conference team.  Starud and Muscari earned spots on the 1st Team, and Morgan made the 2nd Team.

Up next for Concord is its final tune-up before the NCAA regional tournament – the Gannon Spring Mixer, on April 22-23 in Clymer, NY.
