CU OPENS FINAL WEEK OF REGULAR SEASON WITH VISIT TO WV STATE

Concord's softball team began the final week of the regular season – and six-game road trip – with a visit to West Virginia State for a WVIAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

WVSU has been tough to beat at home, and proved it again, sweeping CU 3-0 and 7-0 to raise their record to 17-4 at Lady Jacket Field.

GAME ONE

Becca Gleason AB vs Shepherd
The contest was scoreless until the bottom of the 4th, when WVSU bunched together a walk and four singles to push across all three of the game's runs.  The key hit was Mallory Hilton's two-out, two run single.

Yellowjackets starting pitcher Kelsey Lorraine allowed just three base runners and kept CU hitless until Becca Gleason's leadoff single in the top of the 6th.  Lorraine issued two walks – one to Ericka Davies, the other to Gleason -- and struck out 11 in outdueling CU starter Tamara Smith.
