Concord's Ryan Weatherholtz won the WVIAC Pitcher of the Week award on March 12, after throwing a three-hit shutout at Fairmont State.

He's in the running to win it again.

Weatherholtz (left) just missed history on Saturday afternoon, allowing only one hit and one walk in shutting out Glenville State, 9-0, in the first game of a WVIAC seven-inning doubleheader on the Pioneers' home field.

CU's #2 starter, Tyler Zimm, followed Weatherholtz's gem with a solid outing of his own as the Mountain Lions completed the sweep with an 11-2 victory in the nightcap at the Sue Morris Complex in Glenville, WV.

The twin wins pushed Concord's winning streak to five and moved CU to 2nd place in the WVIAC South Division.

GAME ONE
BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

Weatherholtz gave up a one-out single to Phillip Longnecker in the bottom of the 1st inning, then put the Pioneers' offense on lockdown.  The sophomore right-hander retired the next 19 batters he faced before Steven Miller coaxed a walk with two out
s in the bottom of the 7th.

Weatherholtz struck out nine and faced just two batters over the minimum in extending his scoreless streak to 10 1/3 innings.

Meanwhile, the Mountain Lions' offense took advantage of two GSC errors to score three unearned runs in the top of the 1st, and played longball after that to take command of the game.

Bret Blevins hit a two-run home run in the 3rd to push CU's lead to 5-0.

In the 6th, Ryan Johnston led off with a solo homer, and after singles by Devin Smith and T.J. Brockway, Jerrod Groves launched a three-run shot that put the contest out of reach.

GAME TWO
BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

Concord wasted little time in resuming its offensive onslaught.   The Mountain Lions pounced on Pioneer starting pitcher Brock McClung for four runs in the top of the 1st, courtesy of two-run homers from Josh Wenger and Johnston.

CU blew open the game in the 3rd on Devin Smith's grand slam, and the barrage didn't end there --  Brockway hit a solo shot in the 4th and Blevins launched a two-run blast in the 5th.

On the mound, Zimm (right) allowed an RBI single to Ronald Loy in the bottom of the 1st, the only blemish in an effective four-inning outing.  His biggest jam came in the 3rd, when GSC put runners on first and second with one out.  But Zimm retired the next two Pioneers to close the door.
The sophomore left-hander scattered five hits and struck out four in getting the win.

Blevins went 4-4 with a home run, a double, three runs and two RBIs to lead the Concord lineup.

Up next for Concord (11-15, 7-4) is the finale of its three-game set in Glenville – a single nine-inning game set for 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 25 at the Sue Morris Complex.
