SOFTBALL: SNOWMEN

LADY LIONS DROP PAIR TO LMU

In golf, the number 8, because of its shape, is referred to as a “snowman.”

Concord's softball team encountered a pair of “snowmen”– before a major winter storm moved in -- dropping a non-conference doubleheader at Lincoln Memorial University (TN) by scores of 8-0 and 8-3 on Saturday afternoon in Harrogate, TN.

Then, with the real snow looming, the Lady Lions' scheduled doubleheader at Johnson C. Smith University (NC) on Sunday afternoon was cancelled.

Sunday's storm dropped eight inches of heavy, wet snow on Mercer County, leaving thousands without power and closing Concord's campuses in Athens and Beckley on Monday.

GAME ONE

The host Railsplitters opened an early 3-0 lead and closed out the contest on the mercy rule with a five-run rally in the bottom of the 5th.  Bridger Eicher's three-run home run was the key blow.

Concord reached LMU starting pitcher Amanda Snow – who boasts a 0.00 ERA – for four hits.  Sheila Davies had two, with Ericka Davies and Tamara Smith getting one each.

GAME TWO

The Lady Lions scored once each 2nd and 3rd innings to take a 2-1 lead, but the Railsplitters scored seven unanswered runs to lead 8-2 before CU tallied once more in the 7th.

Up next for Concord (2-4) is a non-conference doubleheader at Shaw University on Saturday, February 25.  First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Raleigh, NC.
