CU DISPATCHES GLENVILLE STATE, MOVES TO 7th IN WVIAC

Concord's men's basketball hopes to finish in the top half of the WVIAC this season.  To increase their chances, the Mountain Lions will need to defeat opponents from the lower half of the league standings.

CU did just that on Monday night, taking a double-digit lead eight minutes after tipoff and going on to defeat 12th-place Glenville State, 79-65, at the Carter Center.  The victory, Concord's third in a row, completed a season sweep of the Pioneers and lifted CU to 7th in the WVIAC standings.

A three-pointer by Javaughn Acree-Manuel gave CU a 21-11 lead with 11:50 left in the 1st half.  The visitors closed within 25-20, but Acree-Manuel sank another three that sparked a 14-6 run that gave Concord a 39-26 advantage at the break.

The Mountain Lions made six of their first ten shots in the 2nd half to build a 53-36 lead with 15:54 left.  Glenville State scored seven straight points to close within 53-43, but Burnell Granderson scored six unanswered points of his own to push CU's advantage to 59-43 less than four minutes later.  Concord would lead by as many as 22 points.

The Mountain Lions shot a healthy .525 (32-61) from the field, while limiting Glenville State – the lowest-scoring team in the conference – to .333 (19-57).

Romel Kemp topped Concord with 22 points, on 10-14 shooting, and a team-high five rebounds.  Acree-Manuel added 19 points, on 8-13 shooting, while Granderson shot 5-8 in finishing with 12 points.

Jamel Morris led Glenville Sate (6-16, 5-13) with 26 points.
Up next for Concord (13-10, 10-9) is the final road game of the regular season.  The Mountain Lions will visit the WVIAC's current 12th-place team – Fairmont State – on Saturday, February 18.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Joe Retton Arena in Fairmont, WV.

Concord dropped an 84-82 loss to the Fighting Falcons on January 7 at the Carter Center.

Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 102.3 The Ticket (WMTD, Hinton/Princeton/Beckley) as part of a doubleheader with the women's game, which begins at 2:00.
