The Lady Lions are getting their stride back with another victory at home. Despite the freezing weather outside, the CU Women's basketball team was hot today. The women beat the Lady Scots in a matchup at home in the Carter Center, 72-60.
Jolysa Brown led the Lady Lions with a game-high 22 points and 7 rebounds. But, today was a team effort – with three of Brown's teammates also scoring double digits. Camisha Alexander finished the game with 20 points and 3 rebounds,
Andrea Bertrand scored 12 points, and Tanisha Williams helped with 10 points and 5 boards.
At one point in the first half, Concord was down 11-17 after a good three from Lady Scot, DaKeisha Mann. With 11:20 left in the half, the Lady Lions got the momentum back. Brown's jumper to make it 13-17 led the way. Alexander, Bertrand, and another two from Brown, put Concord in the lead, 21-19. After this lead change, CU kept it, all the way to the victory.
Although, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing. Ohio Valley's Shelby Way sunk two free throws after a foul from Bertrand, making the score 51-49 with 9:35 left in the game. The Lady Lions answered back quickly, to make the score 59-49 with 5:22 left to go.
Dakeisha Mann led the Lady Scot's with a double-double, 17 points and 11 boards.
The Lady Lions have improved their record, 16-6, 13-5, to help them on their road towards the conference championships. Their next opponent, Glenville State, will be facing CU at the Carter Center on Monday, February 13 at 5:30 PM.
