BsB: SOUTHERN CHILL

CU BATS KEPT COOL IN SERIES OPENER

Ryan Weatherholtz Pitch, 3B View 235 x 243
Concord's baseball team travelled south, but couldn't get the bats warmed up, falling 6-0 to Armstrong Atlantic State in the opener of a three-game weekend series at Pirate Field in Savannah, GA.

AASU sophomore righthander Ethan Bader allowed the Mountain Lions just one hit over eight innings as the host side improved to 4-0 on the young season.

Bader faced only two batters over the minimum.  He allowed a one-out walk to Keith Morrisroe in the top of the 4th and a two-out single to Keith Morrisroe in the 6th.

Concord starting pitcher Ryan Weatherholtz matched Bader's shutout pace until the bottom of the 4th, when he allowed a run-scoring fielder's choice.  The Pirates reached Weatherholtz for two more runs in the 5th.  AASU benefitted from three Concord errors to score three unearned runs in the 6th.

Weatherholtz went 4 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits.  He walked one and struck out two.

Casey Maloney paced the Pirates with two hits and three RBIs.  AASU has built its early unblemished against teams that reached the NCAA tournament last year – the Pirates a three-game series from Winston-Salem State (NC) last weekend in Savannah.
