CU PREVIEW: MOUNTAIN LIONS BASKETBALL

CONCORD HOSTS WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN IN DOUBLEHEADER TONIGHT

Concord hosts the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats in a WVIAC basketball doubleheader on Wednesday, February 1 at the Carter Center.  The women's game tips off at 5:30 pm.  The men's game is scheduled to follow at 7:30.

WOMEN
The Lady Lions (14-4, 11-3) come in off a tough 80-79 loss to West Liberty this past Saturday.  Jolysa Brown recorded a game-high 28 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.  Andrea Bertrand added 18 points while Amanda Smith accounted for 12.  Anna Truckley also contributed five assists.

The Bobcats (12-5, 9-3) defeated Davis & Elkins, 64-54, Saturday afternoon in Buckhannon.  Jamie Kaufman had a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. Lydia Bridenbaugh added 15 points while Brittany Maxey netted 13 points and 10 rebounds. Daria Abros'kina accounted for seven rebounds and seven assists.

CU's Brown is currently 2nd in the WVIAC in rebounding (12.1) and blocked shots (2.0), and is 5th in points per game (19.1).  Camisha Alexander is 2nd in free throw percentage (.898), 4th in three-point field goal percentage (.398), and 8th in three-point field goals made (2.06).  Bertrand is 6th in field goal percentage (.503), while Smith is 10th (.470).

Wesleyan's Bridenbaugh is 2nd in scoring (21.8), 5th in free throw percentage (.838), and 8th in field goal percentage (.481).  Kaufman stands 2nd in field goal percentage (.547), 3rd in scoring (20.5), and 7th in rebounding (8.6) this week.  Abros'kina is 7th in assists (4.19).


MEN
Playing in front of one of a large, loud home crowd on Saturday, the Mountain Lions just missed an upset of 2nd-ranked West Liberty, falling 103-98.   Javaughn Acree-Manuel topped CU with 26 points. Cory Willard added 20 and Romel Kemp 17.  Corey Neeley chipped in 11 points with five assists.


Layup vs WLU
WVWC is off a 75-65 home win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday.  Colby Wohlleb posted 19 points and six rebounds while Raymont McElroy scored 18. Kelsey Williams produced a double-double of 18 points and a game-best 15 boards.  Reggie Chambers added 14 points.

In the WVIAC, CU's Willard is 2nd in three-point field goals made (3.29) and 3rd in three-point field goal percentage (.500).  Kemp is 5th in blocked shots (1.82), Neeley is 6th in free throw percentage (.870), and Mike Boyd is 7th in assists (4.67).

WVWC's Williams leads the conference in rebounding (10.3) and is 3rd in blocked shots (2.21), 4th in field goal percentage (.614), and 8th in scoring (19.2).  Wohlleb is the league's leading three-point shooter (.593).  Chamber is 5th in assists (5.41) and Mike Washington is 7th in blocked shots (1.53).
