Concord Falls, 86-72, at Wesleyan

The loss drops Concord's record to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the WVIAC. West Virginia Wesleyan improves to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Senior forward Gentry Shrewsbury scored a team-high 17 and grabbed five rebounds to pace the Mountain Lions. Shrewsbury went 6-for-8 from the field and 5-for-6 from the foul line. Fellow senior forward Damien Tunstalle registered his second double-double in as many games with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Thomas Brown and senior guard Eric Bailey both chipped in 13 points. Bailey was 3-for-5 from three-point range.

Junior forward Nick Ruffin made his first start as a Mountain Lion and finished with seven rebounds to go with four points. Sophomore guard Mike Boyd passed out four assists.

As a team, the Mountain Lions grabbed a season-high 20 offensive rebounds. Overall, Concord held a 41-40 rebounding advantage over the Bobcats, but was outshot 57.4 percent (31-for-54) to 38.2 percent (26-for-68). CU also held edges in second chance points (22-11) and points off turnovers (17-15). Both squads committed 13 turnovers.

Concord fell behind 8-1 after the first five minutes Saturday, but responded with a 21-12 run over the next nine minutes to give CU a 22-20 lead with 6:13 to play in the half. The spurt was sparked by six points each from Shrewsbury and Tunstalle as well as five points from Bailey. However, the lead was short lived as the Bobcats fired back with a 17-9 run of their own to take a 37-29 lead into halftime.

The Mountain Lions were able to cut the Wesleyan lead to as few as two points (42-40) in the second half, but were never quite able to complete the comeback. Wesleyan's lead grew to as large as 17 points (61-44) with 9:32 to play in the second period before the eventual 86-72 final.

Kelsey Williams led the Bobcats with game-highs of 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Concord returns to action Dec. 15 at 2:00 p.m. at West Virginia Tech. Concord defeated Tech, 93-78, at the Carter Center on Dec. 3.
