ATHENS, W. Va. - Sophomore
Sarah Jones earned another double-double with 12 hits, 10 digs, and a block in the match-up against the University of Charleston. Concord dropped the match, 3-0 to the Golden Eagles in this West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match. CU's record is now 14-16 overall, 5-6 in the conference.
The Mountain Lions worked hard in the first set but were edged by UC 28-26 with five tie scores and four lead changes. Concord found themselves down 21-24 when Jones with a set from sophomore
Nikki McMillan put the ball away to start a comeback. CU controlled the serve until UC tied it back up 25-25 with a kill from Katharine Furlong. The Golden Eagle's took the win after two kills and an ace.
The Mountain Lions weren't able to gain momentum and dropped the second set, 25-13. The Universtiy of Charleston outhit CU with a hitting percentage of .429 to .107.
The third set showed two lead changes and resulted in UC taking the match with a score of 25-16. Concord grabbed the lead early at 5-3 but the Golden Eagles retaliated and didn't allow CU to get out on top again.
Junior
Jasmin Sutherland earned seven kills and one block. Sophomore
Brytni Willis led the team with two aces while grabbing six kills and four digs. Freshman
Kylie Perdue had four kills, a block, and a dig. Captain Junior
Rebecca Lovejoy contributed with two kills, one block, and one dig.
Sophomore
Amanda Walker led the Mountain Lions with with 16 assists along with one dig. McMillan grabbed 11 assists and seven digs.
The Mountain Lions next match is scheduled for Thursday, October 8th. The WVIAC match-up is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. against West Virginia State in Institute, WV.
