Women’s Basketball Looks to Snap Skid at WV State

ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team will aim to end its two-game losing streak Thursday at West Virginia State. Concord (2-4, 1-1 WVIAC) has nearly erased double-digit deficits in its last two games, but came up just short in both contests.

Mountain Lion Notes
• Concord has controlled the series against West Virginia State recently, winning eight out of the last 10 games played between the schools including a pair of wins last season (67-64 and 77-66).

• Since the 1993-94 season, Concord is 7-6 at West Virginia State.

• Senior guard Tanisha Williams had the best game of her Concord career, in CU's 70-61 loss vs. UVA-Wise. Williams did a little bit of everything and finished with 24 points, eight rebounds, seven steals and six assists in 38 minutes of action. Williams, who made her first start of the season, grabbed six offensive rebounds.

• Junior forward Amanda Smith continued her streak of double-digit scoring performances with an 18-point effort vs. UVA-Wise. Smith is Concord's leading scorer on the year at 15.5 ppg.

• Due to a rash of injuries many of Concord's players were forced to play extended minutes vs. UVA-Wise including senior guard Katy Somerville who was on the court for 39 of a possible 40 minutes. She responded with career-highs of four assists and four steals while scoring 6 points.

• Sophomore forward Rachel Artrip, Concord's leading rebounder on the year, was one of four players with four rebounds vs. UVA-Wise.

• Concord leads the WVIAC with a turnover margin of +5.33 and is second in assist to turnover ratio at 0.84.

• West Virginia State has played just one game this season, a 77-71 win over Seton Hill. The Yellow Jackets were led to the victory by the duo of Jordan Block and Jasmine Blanton. Both players scored 14 points. Block also had seven rebounds and Blanton passed out four assists.

The Coaches: Kenny Osborne is in his 13th season as Concord's head coach. Osborne has tallied a record of 185-162 (.533) at CU. Osborne is 197-177 (.527) for his career as a head coach.

Up Next: Concord will step outside of WVIAC play for its next two games to host Virginia Intermont (5:30 p.m. Dec. 3) and Lincoln Memorial (5:30 p.m. Dec. 6).
