ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University men's basketball team will hit the road with its perfect record for the third time this season when it travels to play WVIAC rival Alderson-Broaddus Tuesday night.
MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Historically, Concord has had trouble against Alderson-Broaddus. Since the 1993-94 season, CU has lost 19 of 25 games against the Battlers, including losing nine of the last 10 match-ups.
• The Mountain Lions have darted out to a 3-0 record this season with victories over Mercyhurst, Kutztown and Pitt-Johnstown. Concord's triumph vs. UPJ was 10-point (86-76) win that saw senior forward
Damien Tunstalle and sophomore guard
Paul Byrd both reach the 20-point plateau with 25 and 20 points, respectively. Tunstalle has scored at least 19 points in all three games this season.
• Byrd has been a great presence off of a CU bench that has outscored its counterparts in all three contests this season. For the year, Byrd has scored 11.3 points per game.
• Byrd's scoring output included an 8-for-8 free throw performance.
• Sophomore forward
Jordan Davis is Concord's leading rebounder at seven rebounds per game and is CU's second-leading scorer at 12.3 points per game.
• In his first start for Concord, sophomore guard
Thomas Brown nearly tallied a double-double with 12 points and seven rebounds.
• Sophomore guard
Mike Boyd had a team-season high of six assists against Pitt-Johnstown. Boyd also scored six points and grabbed four rebounds.
• Concord was picked to finish in 10th place this season in the WVIAC according to the preseason coaches' poll. CU was picked to finish in the same spot a season ago before proving the voters wrong and finishing sixth.
The Coaches: Concord is led by
Kent McBride, who is in his second season in charge of the men's basketball program he once starred for. McBride is 19-12 as a head coach.
Longtime coach Greg Zimmerman is in his 24th season at Alderson-Broaddus. Zimmerman is 260-84 in his time at A-B.
