Women’s Hoops Opens WVIAC Play vs. Pitt-Johnstown

ATHENS, W. Va. - Fresh off of its overtime win vs. West Virginia Tech, the Concord University women's basketball team is set to open up WVIAC play at home against Pitt-Johnstown 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Carter Center.

Mountain Lion Notes
• Pitt-Johnstown leads the all-time series against Concord, 6-3, but the Mountain Lions have won last year's game 79-71 behind 27 points from the now graduated Jolysa Brown as well as 16 points from junior guard Amanda Smith.

• Concord is 4-1 in its WVIAC openers dating back to the 2007-08 season. CU's lone loss came against Pitt-Johnstown in 2010-11 (68-66, OT).

• The Mountain Lions earned their first win of the season with an 86-81 victory in overtime over West Virginia Tech on Nov. 14. The triumph was sparked by 30 points from Smith.

• Smith's 30 points matched a 30-point effort from West Liberty's Hillary Southworth (vs. Virginia Union) for the top scoring game by a WVIAC player this season.

• The contest will be Pitt-Johnstown's season opener.

• Four players scored in double figures for Concord in its win vs. WV Tech: sophomore guard Stephanie Wagner (15), senior guard Tanisha Williams (15), and junior center Sammi Webster (10).

• Wagner's five assists were the most by a Concord player this season.

• Dating back to her time at WV State, Wagner has scored at least 10 points in a game in 15 of her 28 collegiate games.

• Head coach Kenny Osborne is four wins away from his 200th career victory.

• After a tremendous 2012-13 season, Concord was picked to finish in fourth place in the WVIAC this season by the conference's coaches in their preseason poll. CU received one first-place vote in the poll.

The Coaches: Kenny Osborne is in his 13th season as Concord's head coach. Osborne has tallied an overall record of 184-160 (.535). Osborne is 196-175 (.528) for his career as a head coach.

Sasha Palmer is in her sixth season as head coach at Pitt-Johnstown. Through five seasons, Palmer has posted a 73-68 overall record (.518) and a 60-46 (.566) in WVIAC games. 

Up Next: Concord will hit the road to play at Alderson-Broaddus on Tuesday, Nov. 20 before returning home to play UVA-Wise on Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
