ATHENS, W. Va. - After going 0-2 to start the season, the Concord University women's basketball team will look for its first win of the season tonight when it hosts West Virginia Tech at the Carter Center for CU's 2012-13 home opener.
Mountain Lion Notes
• Concord is 17-10 against West Virginia Tech since the 1993-94 season and has won nine of the last 10 meetings vs. the Golden Bears.
• Since the 2007-08 season, Concord is 4-1 in its home openers.
• Concord started the season with losses against Indiana (Pa.) (72-44) and vs. Clarion (81-75) at the WVIAC-PSAC Challenge in Fairmont, W. Va.
• Through two games, Concord has been led by sophomore transfer Stephanie Wagner, who is averaging team-bests of 13.5 points and three assists per game while shooting a Concord-high .588 from the field.
• Senior guard
Tanisha Williams earned the first double-double of her Concord career in CU's loss against Clarion. Williams tallied career-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds.
• After a tremendous 2012-13 season, Concord was picked to finish in fourth place in the WVIAC this season by the conference's coaches in their preseason poll. CU received one first-place vote in the poll.
• Concord returns two starters from last year's team in All-WVIAC junior forward
Andrea Bertrand and junior guard
Amanda Smith.
• Through two games, junior center
Sammi Webster has been CU's leading rebounder with 6.5 boards per game.
• Junior forward
Rachel Artrip and senior guard
Katy Somerville have begun the season by starting the first two games of their collegiate careers after serving as reserves for CU in the past. Both have averaged 7.0 ppg with Artrip adding 4.0 rpg.
The Coaches: Kenny Osborne is in his 13th season as Concord's head coach. In his first 12 years in charge of the program, Osborne has tallied an overall record of 183-158. Osborne is 195-173 for his career as a head coach.
West Virginia Tech is led by Jenna Everyhart, who is entering into her second season as head coach of the Golden Bears. Tech went 6-23 in Everyhart's first season as head coach. Prior to taking the West Virginia Tech job, Everyhart held assistant positions at Kent State, DePaul University, Charleston Southern University and Stetson University.
