FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Senior guard
Tanisha Williams scored a career-high 20 points and sophomore guard Stephanie Wagner added 19 points, but it wasn't quite enough as the Concord University women's basketball team dropped a close, 81-75, decision Saturday to Clarion University in the WVIAC-PSAC Challenge in Fairmont, W. Va.
Williams went 6-for-12 from the field and 8-for-9 from the foul line while also grabbing a career-best, and game-high, 10 rebounds for her first double-double. Wagner's 19 points came off of a 7-for-11 shooting night that included three made three-pointers. Senior guard
Katy Somerville also finished in double figures, scoring 11 points in the loss.

Jacqueline Kestner combined for 13 rebounds after grabbing six and seven rebounds, respectively.
Concord held the edge in rebounds over Clarion (1-1) 39-37 while also forcing Clarion into 18 turnovers while only committing 15 of their own. However, Clarion outshot the Mountain Lions from the field 53.4 percent – 37.9 percent.
CU held an early 5-3 lead over Clarion thanks to a jumper by Somerville and a three-pointer from Artrip, but Clarion quickly took the lead on a three-pointer of its own, forcing Concord to play from behind for the rest of the game.
The Mountain Lions played Clarion close for the remainder of the half and trailed by just three points (39-36) at the break. The Golden Eagles extended their advantage over Concord to 12 points (62-50) through the opening 10 minutes of the second half. However, Concord would fight back and eventually trim Clarion's lead to just five points (78-73) with 39 seconds to play in regulation. But Clarion came through with three clutch free throws in the final seconds to hold CU off for the 81-75 victory.
For the game, Concord held advantages over Clarion in points off of turnovers (16-15), points in the paint (26-24), second chance points (17-16) and fast break points (12-10).
Concord will look to earn its first win of the season when it hosts West Virginia Tech 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Carter Center.
