Box Score
ATHENS, W. Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team stretched its unbeaten streak to three games by defeating previously undefeated Davis & Elkins, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field.

The Mountain Lions defeated the Senators behind goals from Erika Hoff and Fiona Mearns. Concord improved its overall record to 4-6-2 and its West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mark to 2-4-1. D-E fell to 8-1-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the WVIAC.

Concord was outshot 10-6 and at 7-1 disadvantage to Davis & Elkins in corner attempts, but CU was able to make the most of their opportunities on offense and play solid enough on defense to earn the victory.

Davis & Elkins took the first four shots of the match, but it was Hoff who broke the 0-0 tie when she beat Senator goalie Ashley Winkelspecht on a free kick at the 35:15 mark in the first half after a Davis & Elkins player was called for a handball in the box.

The Mountain Lions took their 1-0 lead into halftime and added an insurance goal in the 78th minute thanks to a strike by Fiona Mearns. The score was Mearns' second of the season.

With less than two minutes to play in the game, Davis & Elkins was finally able to break through the CU defense with a goal from Emma Davis to cut the Concord lead to 2-1. However, the Mountain Lions were able to protect its lead over the final seconds of the match and come away with the one-goal victory.

Goalie Kaitlyn Wasylko made three saves and just narrowly missed the shutout. Mearns and Alyanna James tied with a team-high two shots with Hoff and Sami Spertzel each recording one shot.

Concord will look to extend its winning streak to four games 3:00 p.m. Oct. 10 vs. West Virginia Tech at Anderson Field. The Mountain Lions are 3-1-2 at home this season.
