Men's Soccer Stopped By The Patriots, 3-1

ATHENS, W. Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team suffered a loss Wednesday evening to University of the Cumberlands (KY), 3-1. This non-conference match-up brings the Mountain Lions record to 2-8-1 and the Patriots to 6-1-1.

CU's first half of play included five shots and two corner kicks. The Patriots were able to get seven shots off including three goals, the first one unassisted from Gonzalo Ortega, the next two were from Pedro Antonelli with Rafael Lima de Lucas assisting on Antonelli's first goal. 

The Mountain Lions started the second half of play down 3-0.  Ryan Forde had the opportunity to put CU on the board with a penalty kick at 50:53 and converted. Forde recorded his first goal of the season with the shot, bringing the score to it's final at 3-1.

Concord was able to shut down University of the Cumberlands the entire second half allowing only five shots and no goals.

CU ended the game with a total of 11 shots. Caleb Bone, Jacob Wise, and Adam Johnson led the team with two shots each. 

Freshman goalkeeper Mitchell Thompson dug deep for five crucial saves during the game, including a stop on a penalty kick by Lima de Lucas during the 72nd minute.

Concord will host Davis & Elkins in their next conference game at Anderson Field. The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up is scheduled for Sunday, October 7th at 4 p.m.
