Mountain Lions Top Ohio Valley, 3-1

VIENNA, W. Va. - Outside hitter Brytni Willis earned her fifth double-double of the season with a season-high 23 digs, 11 kills and four aces. The Mountain Lions were victorious over Ohio Valley in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, 3-1. CU has improved their record to 13-13 overall, 5-3 in the conference.

Concord came out on top quickly by taking the first two sets. Set one saw CU down 14-17 before they made their come back to take the win. Setter Amanda Walker stepped back to serve to help bring the team up 20-17, including two kills from middle hitter Rebecca Lovejoy. The Mountain Lions kept the lead to the end winning, 25-21.

Set two CU kept the momentum up with a hitting percentage of .222 recording 12 kills. At 14-14 Walker was on the service line again and the Mountain Lions found their offensive stride with two kills from Lovejoy and a kill each from middle hitter Sarah Jones and right side Kylie Purdue. This run put CU up 19-14 where they kept the lead to take the set, 25-18.

Ohio Valley bested Concord during the third set, 25-21. The Fighting Scots outhit the Mountain Lions only .154 to .132 during the set helping them get past CU.

The Mountain Lions secured the match-win during set four, 25-15. Aces from libero Lindsey Smith with three, Walker with one, and defensive specialist Allie Pennington with one was just part of the effort that gained them the win. CU also ended the set with 12 kills and a .167 hitting percentage.

Lovejoy and Purdue both racked up 11 kills and five blocks during match-play. Jones recorded nine digs, six kills, and four blocks. Team contributions also came from middle hitter Jasmin Sutherland, three kills and one block, Walker with three kills and two aces, and setter Nikki McMillan and outside hitter Erin Asbury who had one kill each.

CU will continue their roadtrip at Emory & Henry October 27th. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
