Concord Captures Win Over Seton Hill, 2-1

ATHENS, W. Va. -  The Concord University women's soccer team picked up their eighth consecutive win Wednesday afternoon by defeating Seton Hill, 2-1. The Mountain Lions punched their ticket into the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament thanks to its strong end to the season.

Conference matches are still being played out this week to determine the exact seeding of the tournament.

The victory improves CU's record to 9-6-2 overall and its WVIAC record to 5-4-1. Seton Hill falls to 10-7-1 overall and to 5-4-1 in conference play.

Concord was led by goals from sophomore Stacey Calder and freshman Kari Simon. Senior Erika Hoff assisted on both scores. Sophomore goalkeeper Kaitlyn Wasylko recorded five saves to boost her record to 9-6-2 on th eyear.

Calder netted her first goal of the season to start Concord off in the 22nd minute. Sophomore Alyanna James started the run and passed to Hoff who gave a great ball to Calder. Hoff was credited with the assist. Calder beamed the ball to the back of the net to put CU on the board first.

Seton Hill retaliated in the 55th minute with a shot from Junior Madison Gourley now credited with six goals this season. Freshman Breanna Novesel grabbed her second assist of the season with her ball to Gourley to tie the game at 1-1.

With its lead gone and needing to win to qualify for the WVIAC Tournament CU relied on Simon, the team's leading scorer, to put away the game-winning goal with under nine minutes to play in the second half. Hoff found Simon's feet in range of goal to earn her second assist of the day and third of the season. Simon has scored eight goals this year.

Shot contributers for CU include Simon with four, James with two, and Calder with one.

CU held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks while being outshot by the Griffins, 9-7.
