ATHENS, W. Va. – Sophomore outside hitter
Sarah Jones recorded 15 kills and the Concord University women's volleyball team defeated Bluefield College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-18) Wednesday night at the Carter Center. The win was Concord's third consecutive victory.
With the non-conference win, the Mountain Lions overall record now stands at 11-12. Bluefield College drops to 11-14 on the season with the loss.
In addition to her match-high kill total, Jones committed just one attack error and finished the contest with a .667 hitting percentage. She also registered two aces, four digs and one block.
Junior middle hitter
Jasmin Sutherland added nine kills and one block. Freshman middle hitter
Kylie Perdue added six kills and two blocks while junior
Allie Pennington added a match-best three aces to go with five digs.
Sophomore setter
Amanda Walker produced match-highs of 16 assists and five digs with fellow sophomore setter
Nikki McMillan passing out 13 assists.
Senior
Erin Asbury and junior
Rebecca Lovejoy contributed two kills apiece.
Concord jumped out to a 19-11 lead over Bluefield in the first set en route to its 25-14 victory. The second set saw the Mountain Lions battle back from an early 5-0 deficit to claim the 25-19 victory, positioning themselves for the possible sweep.
Bluefield once again jumped out to an early advantage in the third set (10-7), but CU was able to even the set at 10-10 thanks to two BC attack errors and a Pennington ace. Bluefield would hang tight with Concord until the Mountain Lions finished off the set, and the match, with a 6-1 run to take the set 25-18.
Concord will take its three-match winning streak on the road for seven matches, starting with contests vs. Virginia Union and Lock Haven on Oct. 20.
