Mountain Lions Net Victory Over D&E, 3-1

ATHENS, W. Va. - Concord University volleyball defeated Davis and Elkins in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Monday evening, 3-1. The win improved CU's record to 10-13, 4-3 (WVIAC) and dropped D&E's record to 2-14, 1-6 (WVIAC).

The Mountain Lions grabbed the first set decidedly from the Senators in a 25-16 decision.

CU had the early lead in set two but D&E battled back to tie it up 10-10. The Senators were up 21-15 when Sarah Jones stepped up to the line to serve. Jones helped bring her team back 21-20 with a few D&E errors and an ace. The set resulted in a CU victory 26-24.

Set three belonged to the Senators who had the advantage in kills with 10 compared to the Mountain Lion's four, 25-16.

Concord won the match with set four, 25-22. CU and D&E went back and forth with six tie scores and two lead changes during the set. Nikki McMillan took over at the service line at 22-22 when the team pulled ahead and netted the set and match.

Jones led the team and added another double-double with 11 digs, 10 kills and inlcuded an ace and block. Rebecca Lovejoy notched eight kills, five digs, and two blocks. Jasmin Sutherland led the night with blocks, three. Sutherland also had six kills.

Amanda Walker and Nikki McMillan controlled the ball with 23 and seven assists respectively. Walker also finished the match with five digs and two kills. McMillan obtained her career-high in kills with four while digging up 14 balls and notching an ace.

The Mountain Lion's Dig Pink Night is next on the schedule. The non-conference match-up against Bluefield College is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Carter Center on Wednesday.
