ATHENS, W. Va. – A two-goal halftime deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Concord University men's soccer team lost, 2-1, to Seton Hill Saturday at Anderson Field.
For the game, Concord (3-10-1, 3-3-1 WVIAC) held a 7-3 advantage over Seton Hill (3-10-1, 3-3-1 WVIAC) in corners while being outshot by the Griffins 13-12.
Ryan Forde had two shots and scored his third goal of the season to lead Concord.
Tyler Farrar assisted on Forde's score and
Isaac Jordan matched Forde with two shots of his own.
Richard Vincent and
Joe Sweet rounded out the offensive attack with one shot each.
Goalie
Mitchell Thompson played all 90 minutes, making three saves and allowing both Seton Hill scores.
Seton Hill scored goals at 26:01 and 41:33 in the opening half to take a 2-0 lead over the Mountain Lions into the break.
However, Concord would pick up its offensive attack in the second half. CU drew a corner at the 53:52 mark in the period that led to Farrar finding Forde for a score, cutting the SHU lead to just one goal (2-1).
Concord controlled possession for the rest of the half, leading Seton Hill 9-4 in shots and 3-0 in corners over the final 36 minutes, but could never get the game-tying goal past SHU goalie Jordan Sodhi as the Griffins hung on to defeat Concord 2-1.
Joe Tchimou and Harry Jawanda scored goals for Seton Hill.
The Mountain Lions close out their 2012 home schedule Oct. 19 at 2:00 p.m. against King College.
