GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Concord University volleyball team evened up its record in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by defeating Glenville State, 3-1, on the road Thursday night. CU dropped the first set 28-26 before coming on to take three straight sets from GSC (29-27, 25-15, and 25-15).
Concord's overall record now stands at 9-12 with its WVIAC mark improving to 3-3. The Pioneers fell to 4-16 overall and 1-4 in the WVIAC. Concord has won six out of its last eight contests.
Allie Pennington had a big night for Concord. Seeing extensive playing time for the first time this season, Pennington served four aces and made 13 digs.
Amanda Walker also had a solid serving night, finishing the match with three aces. Walker now ranks second on the team this season with 25 total aces.
Sarah Jones was third on the team with two aces.
On the attack, Jones paced Concord with 13 kills while making 10 digs for the double-double effort.
Kylie Perdue added nine kills while Sutherland added eight kills.
Whytni Willis and
Rebecca Lovejoy chipped in five and four kills, respectively.
Amanda Walker led all players with a match-best 22 assists. Fellow setter
Nikki McMillan handed out 13 assists of her own.
Lindsey Smith made a match-high 18 digs for CU.
The Mountain Lions will have the opportunity to get above the .500 mark in WVIAC play for the first time this season when they host Davis & Elkins at the Carter Center Oct. 15 at 7:00 p.m.
