Concord Scores Double OT Win At Virginia Intermont

BRISTOL, Va. - The Concord University men's soccer team battled back from a two-goal deficit to defeat Virginia Intermont 4-3 in double overtime Wednesday night in non-conference competition.

The victory snaps Concord's four-match losing streak and improves its overall record to 3-9-1.

Virginia Intermont scored in the fourth minute and near the end of the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Concord got on the scoreboard with a Joe Sweet goal off of an assist from Richard Vincent at the 59:41 mark in the second half, but VI was able to take what seemed like a commanding 3-1 lead thanks to another score with 17 minutes left to play.

However, the Mountain Lions were able to claw back into the match and force overtime thanks to two goals in the final 10 minutes of the second half to force overtime with the match knotted at 3-3. First, Richard Vincent scored his team-leading fifth goal of the year followed by a Ryan Forde conversion.

After a scoreless opening overtime period, Concord took the match with a score when Tyler Farrar finished off a ball from Isaac Jordan.

CU goalie Mitchell Thompson played the entire match and earned the victory with a five-save night.

Concord held a 23-22 advantage in shots over Virginia Intermont.

Concord returns home 2:00 p.m. Saturday to face Seton Hill in what will be its final home West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match of the season.
