BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Concord University women's soccer team defeated Southern Virginia University Monday evening in a non-conference match-up, 2-1.
Chloe Barber led Concord to the victory with a goal and an assist, the first points of her young career.
CU improves their record to 2-6-2 overall with the win. Southern Virginia fell to 3-6 with the loss.
After a scoreless first half, Southern Virginia's Lora Palmer shot the first goal of the game at 59:21 with a deflection off of the crossbar to give Southern Virginia 1-0 lead.
CU retaliated with a header goal from
Fiona Mearns, her first goal this season, off of an assist from Barber in the 69th minute. Less than three minutes later at 71:06, Barber netted the game-winning goal off of a pass from
Kari Simon. SVU took three shots after Barber's goal, but failed to even the match.
The Mountain Lions finished the game with six shots. Simon and
Alyanna James took two shots each while Barber and Mearns notched one shot apiece.
Goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Wasylko earned the victory after making six saves and allowing one goal in 90 minutes of action.
For the game, Concord was outshot by Southern Virginia, 17-6, while finishing even in corners (6-6).
The Mountain Lions will return home to host Ferrum College at Anderson Field on Thursday, October 4th. The non-conference match-up is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
