There was no lack of star power in the Concord women's basketball team's WVIAC matchup against Fairmont State Saturday afternoon at the Carter Center.

The Lady Lions featured Jolysa Brown, who went into the game in the league's top ten in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots, assist-turnover ratio and minutes played.
The visitors relied on Kaitlyn Snyder, who's among the conference leaders in scoring, assists and three-point shooting.  Both players are among the early candidates for the WVIAC's Player of the Year.

Both players put up big numbers, but Brown and the Lady Lions posted the most important numbers of all – an 80-72 victory that improved CU to 10-2 and 7-1 in the WVIAC.

Snyder scored 22 points in the 1st half as the two teams tied 36-36 at the break.  But Brown countered with a stronger 2nd half -- 22 points, seven rebounds, 7-11 shooting – as CU held on to the top spot in the league standings.

Brown was the central figure in what proved to be a decisive rally in the 2nd half.  CU trailed 50-49 with 12:52 remaining, but wrested away the lead for good with a 14-4 run over the next 6:21.
Brown scored 11 points during the rally, including the first eight.

Brown finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds, her 6th double-double of the season and the 37th of her career.  She added five steals, five assists and two blocked shots.
No other Lady Lion reached double figures.  But four players scored nine points – Rachel Artrip, Holly Bibb, Amanda Smith and Anna Truckley – and Camisha Alexander netted eight.
Four players also finished with at least four assists.

Snyder topped all scorers with 33 points.  Hailey Garrett grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Up next for Concord is a visit to WVIAC foe Ohio Valley on Monday, January 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm in Vienna, WV.

The game will be broadcast on WWNR AM 620/101.1 FM, starting with the “Mountain Lions Preview Show” at 5:10.
