As it was in the beginning, it was for the entire game.

The Concord women's basketball team broke out to an early lead, built upon it, and went to defeat Bluefield State, 84-64, in a WVIAC matchup Saturday afternoon at the Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, WV.

It was the Lady Lions' 12th straight victory over their intra-county rivals, a winning streak that's lasted more than six years.  It was CU's fourth straight victory this season and its fifth in the last six games.

The Lady Lions began Saturday with nine unanswered points in the first 2:38, all from sophomore forward Andrea Bertrand.  CU would push its lead to 15-3 just five minutes after tipoff, and went ahead 27-9 on Camisha Alexander's three-point shot with 11:12 to go before halftime.

Concord would lead by as many as 22 points before the Lady Blues closed to within 40-29 with 3:16 to go.  CU took a 45-31 advantage into halftime, then opened the 2nd half with a 10-4 run in 3:25 to pull away to stay.  Concord's lead would balloon to as many as 30 points, at 75-45.

Jolysa Brown posted the 40th double-double of her career – and her 9th of the season – with 18 points and 13 rebounds.  She added three blocked shots, three assists and two steals.

Camisha Alexander dropped a game-high 21 points, sinking 3-5 from three-point range.  Bertrand just missed a double-double, with 18 points and nine rebounds, while shooting 8-9 from the field.

All 14 Lady Lions got playing time, and 12 scored.
