MBB: TUESDAY, CRUISE DAY

CU LEADS FROM START TO FINISH IN WIN OVER D&E

Jordan Davis Shot vs D&E
In the rugged WVIAC, easy nights are few and far between.

But the Concord men's basketball enjoyed such an experience on Tuesday, bolting out to an early double-digit lead and rolling past Davis & Elkins, 95-68, at the Carter Center.

The Mountain Lions sank five of their first eight shots to go ahead 13-2 less than four minutes after tipoff.  The Senators closed within 13-5, but Concord scored 19 of the game's next 28 points to claim a 32-14 advantage with 6:59 before halftime.

CU was ahead 51-31 at the break and never let its lead fall below 16 points in the 2nd half.  Concord twice led by as many as 29 points, the last time at 86-57 with 3:06 left.

With the game under control, CU head coach Kent McBride was also to give all 13 of his players some court time, and 11 scored.  The Mountain Lions finished the night with 17 assists on 31 made field goals, offset by just six turnovers.

Four Concord players reached double figures, paced by 24 points from Javaughn Acree-Manuel.  The senior guard shot 8-16 from the field, including 5-10 from three-point range.
Cory Willard also shot 5-10 from outside the arc on his way to 17 points.
Romel Kemp added 16 points, and freshman center Jordan Davis contributed 10 points and five rebounds, shooting 5-6 from the field.

PJ led D&E (4-9, 2-9) with 11 points.

Concord never trailed in Tuesday's game and had the lead for all but the first 39 seconds.  The 27-point victory was CU's largest margin of the season, surpassing a 90-66 win at Glenville State on November 22.

Up next for CU is a WVIAC matchup with Mercer County rival Bluefield State on Saturday, January 21.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm at the Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, WV.
