BIG 1st HALF RALLY PROPELS LADY LIONS TO WIN

Did you ever have one of those days at work where you get a lot done before lunch, and the rest of day gets easier?

That's the kind of day the Concord women's basketball team had in its WVIAC matchup at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

The Lady Lions used a game-breaking 36-9 bridging halftime to defeat the Cardinals 75-57 at the McDonough Center in Wheeling, WV.

CU trailed 16-12 less than nine minutes after tipoff.  But a three-point shot from Camisha Alexander and four straight points from Andrea Bertrand sparked the decisive rally, which began with 13 unanswered points. 
Concord led 39-25 at halftime, then broke the game open with seven answered points in less than two minutes to begin the 2nd half.

The Lady Lions would extend their advantage to as many as 26 points, at 58:32, with 13:26 remaining in the game.  Concord also led 75-49 with 3:39 left.

Senior center Jolysa Brown paced Concord with 19 points and 17 rebounds.  It was her 8th double-double of the season and the 39th of her career.

Three other Lady Lions scored in double figures.  Alexander sank 4-6 three-point shots to finish with 16 points; Bertrand and Amanda Smith added 12 points each.

Concord outrebounded WJU 44-34 and limited the Cardinals to .377 shooting from the field.

Cassy Sanderson topped Wheeling Jesuit (2-11, 0-10) with 18 points.


Up next for Concord (12-3, 9-2) is a matchup with WVIAC foe Davis & Elkins on Tuesday, January 17 at the Carter Center in Athens.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
