Former Concord baseball player Ben Grimm has been named interim head baseball coach at the State University of New York-Oneonta.  SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics Tracey Ranieri announced the hiring on Friday, January 13.

Grimm was a pitcher at Concord under head coach Kevin Garrett (now CU's Athletic Director) in 2005 and 2006, after starting his playing career with two seasons at Onondaga Community College.
In his final season at CU, Grimm went 4-3 in 20 appearances, four as a starter.  He struck out 38 batters in 39 2/3 innings and limited opponents to a .278 batting average.
The Mountain Lions were 25-23 that season and reached the WVIAC Tournament championship game.

Grimm earned a Bachelor's Degree in Recreation and Tourism at Concord in 2006, two years after receiving an Associate's Degree in Recreation Leadership from Onondaga CC. Grimm completed a Masters Degree in Athletic Coaching Education from West Virginia University in 2010.

Grimm started his coaching career as an assistant at Cazenovia College (NY) in 2007.  Later that year, he returned to the WVIAC as the pitching coach at Davis & Elkins, where he remained until 2010.
With Grimm on the coaching staff, the Senators increased their win total from nine to 25; in 2010 they were ranked as high as #8 NCBWA Atlantic Region poll.  D&E's team ERA dropped by 3.30 runs during Grimm's tenure.

After D&E, Grimm went to Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, where he was pitching coach, recruiting coordinator, camps coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator and fundraising contact.  In Grimm's first year, the Continentals' ERA dropped three full runs from the previous season and the team enjoyed its longest winning streak in more than six years.

Grimm also serves as President and head coach of the Sherrill Silversmiths of the New York Collegiate Baseball League.  The Silversmiths play a summer season with a roster composed of college players from around the country.  Grimm led the Silversmiths to a winning season in 2009 and a league runner-up finish in 2010.

The SUNY-Oneonta Red Dragons finished last season with an overall record 21-17 while advancing to the second day of the SUNY Athletic Conference tournament.
