Playing in the Kiawah Island Invitational gave the Concord Men's Golf team an important non-conference tune-up before closing out the Fall season with three straight WVIAC tournaments.

Playing at Kiawah Island – where the field featured nine teams ranked in this year's Golf World/Nike NCAA Division II pre-season poll – also gave Concord the chance to see where it stacks up against some of the best teams in the nation.

The results are encouraging.

The Mountain Lions waited out a rain delay and worked through windy conditions on Tuesday's second and final round to finish in 7th place in the 17-teams event at the par-72, 6875-yard Cougar Point Golf Course.

Each of the six teams that ahead of CU are included in the pre-season rankings, and Concord finished ahead of three ranked squads (Barton, North Georgia and Mount Olive).

Even Muscari and Matt Morgan paced the Mountain Lions lineup by totaling a two-day total of 150, tying for 21st place.

Jamie Arthur tied for 28th at 152, Nathaniel Begley tied for 35th at 154 and Sebastian Starud posted a 156 to tie for 43rd out of 85 players.
Up next for the Mountain Lions is the WVIAC Central Regional, September 26-27 at the Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, WV.

The WVIAC Northern Regional in October 9-10 in Wheeling, WV, and Concord will host the WVIAC Championships at Glade Springs in Beaver, WV October 16-18.
