MEN'S SOCCER: LIGHTING IT UP

CU BEATS SUNDOWN, AND A-B, ON BONE'S OVERTIME GOAL

Deyanov & Cloonan vs A-B 235 x 238
There are no lights at Anderson Field.  The illumination for Concord's games on its home field has to come from the light of day.

Wednesday evening, as darkness began to fall on Athens, CU's Men's Soccer team brightened its day by lighting up the scoreboard one last time.

Caleb Bone's overtime goal lifted Concord past WVIAC rival Alderson-Broaddus, 3-2, and gave CU its first victory of the season.

The freshman tallied his first collegiate goal by directing a through ball from the CU's left wing into the upper right corner of the Battlers' net in the 97th minute.

Ivan Deyanov scored Concord's first two goals.  The first came in the 37th minute, when he fired in a one-timer off a centering pass from Sebastian Escobar, who got credit for the assist.  The second came in the 56th minute, when he headed in a rebound after a header from Bone had bounced off the crossbar.

Jose Noriega scored both of A-B's goals, including a header that squared the match at 2-2 in the 81st minute.

Concord outshot Alderson-Broaddus 20-15, although A-B held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Up next for the Mountain Lions is a non-conference match at the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday, October 1.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm in Washington, DC.
