WOMEN'S SOCCER: A LOT BUT A LITTLE

CU BLANKED IN ROAD MATCH AT SHEPHERD

Nicole Dirnagl w/ Fiona Mearns 314 x 210
There was certainly no lack of offense in the Concord Women's Soccer team's WVIAC match at Shepherd on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lions and Rams combined for 37 shots, which breaks down to one every two minutes and 25 seconds.

The difference was the host side being able to get shots into the back of the net. Shepherd took the lead early, then added a valuable insurance goal in a 2-0 final in Shepherdstown, WV.

The Rams broke through in the 17th minute, when Kelsey Smith scored off a through ball from Erika Martin. Their 1-0 advantage held until the 51st minute, when Lexi Vondrak's corner kick set up Samantha Pippin for a header that doubled the lead.

Laura Smith – who scored her first collegiate goal in Wednesday's match at Tusculum – led Concord with three shots on Saturday. Nicole Dirnagl, Alyanna James and Fiona Mearns tried two each.

Senior goalkeeper Kacey Hildebrand made 11 saves for the Lady Lions.
