MEN'S SOCCER: HOT KEEPER

STOUT GOALKEEPING LEADS UPJ PAST MOUNTAIN LIONS

It's more common in ice hockey than soccer, but it's true in both sports – a hot goalkeeper can sometimes win a game single-handedly.

Concord's Men's Soccer team found that out Saturday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions fired a season-high 24 shots – 13 of them on goal – but couldn't find a way past Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Michael Cuccaro. He denied Concord at every turn, as the visiting Mountain Cats hung on for a 1-0 WVIAC victory at Anderson Field.

UPJ got the game's only goal when Steve Taslov tallied off an assist from Marc Bucci in the 15th minute.

Concord would outshoot Pitt-Johnstown 21-7 after the goal, including the final nine shots of the match, only to be denied by Cuccaro.

Six different Mountain Lions put shots on goal, including a match-high five by Tyler Farrar (above right).

Up next for CU is a Homecoming Week non-conference match against Virginia Intermont on Tuesday, September 20 at Anderson Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm and admission is free.
