Sometimes, what happens early means nothing. Other times, it means a lot.

Concord's Women's Soccer team couldn't find its form early in its season opening match Thursday night, and bowed to Frostburg State University, 5-0, in a non-conference match on Thursday night in Frostburg, MD.

The Lady Bobcats carried the play after the opening kickoff and earned two corner kicks in the first five minutes.

The first corner came up empty, but the Lady Bobcats scored the match's first goal on Erin Ford's header off a corner from Liz Sellgman in the 5th minute. Frostburg State found the net again on Dorie Gedridge's unassisted goal in the 16th minute.

Two goals late in the half would give the Lady Bobcats control. Adria Graham scored in the 36th minute, assisted by Stephanie Fazenbaker, and Kaitlin Evans added an unassisted goal in the 41st.

FSU outshot Concord 12-0 in the 1st half, with a 6-0 advantage in shots on goal. The Lady Bobcats also forged a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

Staked to the lead, the Lady Bobcats adopted a defensive posture in the 2nd half. Concord attempted its first corner kick in the 66th minute, but could not find the net. Fiona Mearns put a shot on goal in the 81st minute, only to be denied by goalkeeper Katie Smith.

FSU's Sarah Allsop closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 76th minute.

Up next for Concord (0-1) is a visit to Kutztown University for another non-conference match on Saturday, September 3. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Kutztown, PA.
