all team went into its important WVIAC Southern Division weekend series against Bluefield State in fourth place in the divisional standings.

The top four teams in each of the WVIAC's two divisions qualify for the conference tournament.

So the Mountain Lions had some business to take care of against their intra-county rivals.

CU increased its chances of reaching the tournament by sweeping the Big Blues, 5-4 and 13-2, in a series-opening seven-inning doubleheader on a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon at June O. Shott Field in Bluefield, WV.

The twin victories increased Concord's lead over the University of Charleston – the Southern Division's fifth-place team – from 1.2 points to 11.48 points, based on the WVIAC's Power Rating points system.

Brandon Proctor Pitch #1 235 x 240
In game one, the Mountain Lions held a 5-1 lead, then had to withstand a three-run rally by BSC in the bottom of the 7th.

But Concord blunted any momentum the Big Blues had going into the second game by scoring five runs in the top of the 1st, and pulling away from there.

Ryan Weatherholtz (above) and Brandon Proctor (right) each threw complete-game victories for the Mountain Lions.

Concord and Bluefield State conclude their three-game series with a single nine-inning game on Sunday, May 1 in Bluefield, WV. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
