Concord's Softball team rode its offense to victory in an elimination game against Alderson-Broaddus Friday morning at the WVIAC Tournament.

Facing another elimination game in the afternoon, the Lady Lions' defense wobbled, and the bats weren't there to bail them out. Concord committed two costly errors and missed out on multiple scoring chances in a 3-1 loss to Glenville State at Jackson Park in Vienna, WV.

The Lady Lions end their season at 21-24.

The Pioneers bunched together a pair of singles and an RBI groundout by Lacey Williams to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st.

Glenville State scored its final two runs in the 2nd, with the help of both of CU's errors. Carly Caldon led off and reached base on a miscue by SS Sheila Davies; Katelyn Porter doubled to put runners at second and third. CU pitcher Tamara Smith struck out Brittany Spencer for the first out, but a misplay by CF Tiffany Kobordo, off the bat of Morgan Scarpellini, let Caldon come in to score.

Brittany Harper singled, moving Porter to third and Scarpellini to second. Erin Morgan's groundout to Davies brought in the final run.

Concord threatened in the top of the 3rd, getting Casey Ord to second base with one out. But GSC pitcher Ally Southall got out of the jam.

n The Lady Lions benefitted from the Pioneers' only error to tally their lone run in the 4th. With Brooke Bowling on first after a leadoff single, Davies hit a potential double-play grounder to shortstop. The Pioneers forced out Bowling at second, but 1B Kayleigh Huck couldn't handle the relay throw, and Davies went to second on the error.
Stephanie Harper (left) clubbed a double that scored Davies.
Concord had a runner in scoring position with one out for the second straight inning, but Southall got out of the jam again.

CU put on the pressure again in the 6th, when Bowling led off with a double. But Southall induced three straight fly outs to deny the Lady Lions one more time.

Southall hit Smith with a pitch to start the top of the 7th, but retired the next three hitters to end the game.

Bowling went 2-3 with a double to pace the Concord offense.

In the circle, Smith worked her second straight complete game of the day, but suffered the loss. The sophomore right hander scattered eight hits, walked two and struck out two, and allowed only one earned run.

Interestingly, Friday afternoon's meeting was the first time Concord and Glenville State had played each other in the WVIAC Tournament.

Concord loses just one senior from this year's team -- catcher Kaylyn Klatt.

NOTE:  CU's Casey Ord earned a spot on the WVIAC All-Tournament team.
