Scoring can sometimes be difficult in post-season softball, when pitching and defense often dictate a game's outcome.

That was not the case for Concord today.

The Lady Lions busted out for an important, late five-run rally on their way to a 7-3 victory over Alderson-Broaddus in an elimination game at the WVIAC Tournament in Vienna, WV.

The win keeps 11th-seeded CU alive at the double-elimination tournament. It was Concord's first post-season victory since 2008.

The 9th-seeded Battlers scratched out the game's first run in the bottom of the 3rd.
But Concord reached A-B pitcher Kat Powell for two runs in the top of the 5th, on an RBI double by Ericka Davies and an RBI single by Casey Ord, to take the lead to stay.

The big rally came in the 6th. With one out, Katelyn Williams doubled, chasing Powell. Ali Neace came on in relief, and Brooke Bowling greeted her with a single. Bowling then stole second.

Sheila Davies clouted a two-run double that pushed CU's lead to 4-1. Stephanie Harper singled and went to second on a throw to the plate that kept Davies at third.

Becca Gleason smacked a two-run single that made the score 6-1 and forced A-B into another pitching change.
Neace faced four CU batters; all four got base hits and all four scored.

New pitcher Kristen Workman retired the first batter she faced, but Ericka Davies drew a walk to keep the inning alive. Ord delivered an RBI single to cap the rally.

The 6th-inning outburst gave Concord more than enough cushion to withstand A-B's two-run rally in the bottom of the 7th.

Gleason and Bowling paced CU's offense. Gleason went 3-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; Bowling finished 3-4 with two doubles, a run scored and a stolen base.
Ord went 2-3 with two RBIs. Ericka Davies was 2-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored; her sister Sheila Davies went 1-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
