BIG RALLY NOT ENOUGH

9TH INNING OUTBURST COMES UP SHORT

It was a wild finish, but not a happy ending.

Concord's Baseball finished its appearance at the annual Savannah (GA) Invitational with another late rally, but came up short in a 10-7 non-conference loss to Shippensburg University (PA).

The contest was low-scoring at the start. The Raiders reached Concord starting pitcher Brandon Proctor for a single run in the top of the 2nd and two more in the 5th, while SU starter Cam Richardson kept CU off the board until the bottom of the 7th.

Josh Wenger and Kyle Webb each drew walks to start the 7th, and Bret Blevins moved each runner up with a sacrifice bunt.
Richardson uncorked a wild pitch to score Wenger. One out later, Nick Sydnor chased Richardson with a double to left that brought in Webb and pulled Concord within 3-2.

That set the stage for a wild final inning.

Wenger, who relieved Proctor in the 8th, ran into trouble in the 9th. Shippensburg erupted for seven runs – four of them earned – fueled by four straight hits that wound up plating four runs. By the time the inning ended, the Raiders led 10-2.

Blevins ignited Concord's counter-rally off SU reliever Jimmy Miller in the bottom of the 9th with a one-out triple.
Randy Beard singled to drive him home, followed by a single from Sydnor. Nate Watson drew a pinch-hit walk to load the bases. Miller retired Clay Riggleman for the second out, but Jacob Mays doubled to score Beard and Sydnor and bring CU within 10-5.
Keith Morrisroe added another two-run double, scoring Mays and Watson, to cut the deficit to 10-7. But the rally ended there.

Morrisroe paced the Concord offense by going 2-5 with two RBIs. Sydnor and Blevins added two hits each, and Mays ended with a pair of RBIs.

Proctor took the loss, despite allowing three runs on just four hits in seven innings.
