TWO FOR TUESDAY

LADY LIONS WIN TWICE ON 2ND DAY OF SPRING BREAK TRIP

Brooke Bowling & Kaylyn Klatt vs Carlow 236 x 235
On the strength of two complete-game pitching performances, the Concord Softball team won both its games Tuesday, at the Cocoa Beach Spring Training Expo in Florida.

Brooke Bowling (left, in circle) allowed just three hits in CU's 1-0 win over Carlow University (PA), and Tamara Smith did the same in a 10-1 victory over St. Cloud College (MN).

Against Carlow, which edged CU 5-4 on Monday, the Lady Lions scored the game's only run in the bottom of the 1st. Becca Gleason singled to lead off, and Casey Ord bunted for an infield single. Katelyn Williams followed with a single that brought in Gleason.

Bowling made the lone run stand up. The sophomore right-hander struck out five and walked only one, facing only five batters over the minimum in securing the shutout.

Ord and Williams each had two hits to pace the Concord offense.

The game against St. Cloud College was a much easier time. The Lady Lions batted around in score twice in the bottom of the 1st, then took command with a six-run rally in the 3rd. CU tacked on two more in the 4th and won the contest on the run rule.

Smith struck out ten and issued one walk in a five-inning complete game victory, her second in as many days.

Concord showed a balanced offense, with nine players getting hits. Ord, Bowling and Erika Davies each went 2-3; Ord (right) and Davies scored two runs apiece and Bowling stole two bases.

Up next for Concord is a non-conference doubleheader against Bloomfield College (NJ) at the Cocoa Beach expo on Wednesday, March 9.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
