SPRING BREAK, DAY ONE

FIRST DAY IN FLORIDA ENDS IN SPLIT

Less than 48 hours after playing a WVIAC doubleheader at Shepherd, the Concord Softball team played another twinbill more than 900 miles away.

The Lady Lions began their annual spring break trip to Florida by splitting a pair of games Monday at the Cocoa Beach Spring Training Expo. CU fell to Carlow University (PA) 5-4, then defeated Ridgewater College (MN) 10-0 in five innings.

In the first game, Brooke Bowling and Tiffany Korbodo each went 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Casey Ord was 2-4 and scored a run.

Each team finished with seven hits.

Against Ridgewater, the Lady Lions erupted for six runs in the top of the 1st. CU added single runs in the 3rd and 4th, and scored twice in the 5th.

That was more than enough run support for starting pitcher Tamara Smith. The sophomore right-hander allowed just one hit in a five-inning complete game, facing just two batters over the minimum. She struck out five.

All nine of Concord's starters got at least one hit. Ord went 3-4 with three runs scored, while Stephanie Harper was 3-4 with an RBI and a run. Bowling finished 2-2; Katelyn Williams drove in three runs and scored once while going 2-3, and Becca Gleason was 2-3 with a walk and two runs.

Up next is another split doubleheader at Cocoa Beach, on Tuesday, March 8. The Lady Lions get a rematch with Carlow at 11:00 am, then take on St. Cloud Tech (MN) at 1:00 pm.
