CONFERENCE OPENER

LADY LIONS SWEPT AT SHEPHERD

Concord's Softball team opened its WVIAC schedule with one of its longest road trips of the season, dropping a doubleheader at Shepherd, 5-1 and 4-3, Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Lions' winning streak ended at four games.

GAME ONE

BOXSCORE/PLAY-BY-PLAY

Concord jumped on Shepherd starter Brooke Stambaugh on the top of the 1st inning. With one out, Casey Ord singled and stole second; one out later, Brooke Bowling doubled to left field to scored Ord and put CU ahead 1-0.

Lady Lions starter Tamara Smith made the slim lead stand up until the bottom of the 5th. The Rams started the inning with a triple and two singles to tie the game, and Amber Dudek put them in the lead one out later with an RBI single. Kris Durham followed with the decisive blow, a three-run homer that lifted Shepherd to its final 5-1 lead.

Ord led the Concord offense with two of the Lady Lions' five hits.


GAME TWO
BOXSCORE/PLAY-BY-PLAY

Concord broke open a scoreless game in the top of the 4th, with Ord getting things started again. The junior LF singled with one out, and advanced to second on Katelyn Williams' groundout. Bowling drove in her second run of the day with an RBI single to right to give CU a 1-0 lead.

Shepherd answered in the bottom of the inning on Dudek's two-run homer.

The Lady Lions took back the lead in the 6th. Becca Gleason led off with a walk and stole second, and Ord reached on an infield single. Bowling rolled into a fielder's choice, with Gleason getting thrown out at third and Ord moving to second.
Stephanie Harper doubled to left, scoring Ord and Bowling and putting CU ahead 3-2.

Shepherd answered quickly again. The Rams loaded with bases on two singles and a Concord error; the tying run scored on a passed, and Delaney Bell brought in the lead run with a groundout.

Ord again paced the Concord offense, going 2-3 with two runs scored.

Up next for CU is their annual spring break trip to the Spring Training Expo in Cocoa Beach, FL. The Lady Lions begin their week with a non-conference doubleheader against Carlow University (PA) on Monday, March 7. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am.
