Concord's Softball team wrapped up its annual spring break trip by splitting a pair of games on Friday, March 11.

The Lady Lions fell to Gloucester County College (NJ) 2-0 in the morning, then rebounded for an exciting 7-6 win over Kishwaukee College (IL) in the afternoon.

Concord split its eight games at the Cocoa Beach Spring Training Expo, leaving Florida with an 8-10 overall record.

The matchup with Gloucester was a pitchers' duel between CU's Tamara Smith and the Roadrunners' MaryKate Covely. In fact, the game's only runs came across in the top of the 4th, when Smith misplayed a comebacker into a two-out, two-run throwing error.

Smith scattered four hits in a complete-game effort, but took the loss. Covely allowed five hits and one walk, while striking out six.

Against Kishwaukee, Concord starting pitcher Brooke Bowling struggled, leaving the game after two innings and CU trailing 5-0. Rachel Mack (right) came on in the 3rd and kept the Kougars in check.

Meanwhile, the Lady Lions began their comeback with a two-out rally in the top of the 3rd. Casey Ord singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on Bowling's RBI single. Bowling stole second, went to third on a passed ball, and crossed the plate on an RBI single from Tiffany Kobordo.

Kishwaukee tallied an unearned run in the bottom of the 5th to lead 6-2.

Concord answered promptly in the top of the 6th. Kobordo led off with a single and moved to second on another passed ball. Katelyn Williams walked. Ericka Davies reached on an error by Kougars SS Marisa Riebe, loading the bases. Sheila Davies drove in Williams and Ericka Davies with a two-run single, pulling CU within 6-4.

The Lady Lions put together the game-winning rally in the 7th. Ord led off with a single and advanced to second on another passed ball. After an out, Kobordo singled to driving in Ord and get CU within 6-5.
Yet another passed ball moved Kobordo to second, and Williams' sacrifice bunt advanced her to third.
With two outs and the tying run at third, Ericka Davies squared the score with an RBI single. Rachel Mack followed with a base hit, and Sheila Davies brought in the winning run with an RBI single.

Mack set down the Kougars in order in the bottom of the 7th to secure the victory.

lowed just three hits and one unearned run in five innings to get the win. She struck out four and walked none.

Kobordo (left) paced the Concord lineup by going 4-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Ord went 3-4 with two runs. Sheila Davies was 2-4 with two RBIs, and Ericka Davies went 1-4 with an RBI and two runs.

Up next for Concord is a return to WVIAC play, with a visit to Glenville State for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 16. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
