Seton Hill looked every bit the defending WVIAC Baseball champions in their visit to Concord Tuesday afternoon.

The Griffins flexed their muscle in defeating the Mountain Lions, 20-5, in what was to have been the first game of a doubleheader on a cold, raw, damp day at Anderson Field.

It was CU's first home loss of the season, and the first at Anderson Field since 2009.

The second game was shortened by rain and ruled as “halted” in the third inning, with SHU leading 5-0.
Since Concord and Seton Hill aren't scheduled to meet again during the rest of the regular season, the “halted” game will be completed only if it has a bearing on either team's post-season qualification or positioning.

The first game began as a shootout. Seton Hill jumped out for three runs in the top of the 1st, but Concord came right back with four in the bottom of the inning.

Jacob Mays, Keith Morrisroe and Josh Wenger hit consecutive singles to start the inning. With one out, Bret Blevins' sacrifice fly drove in Mays and advanced the other two runners.

Nick Sydnor singled up the middle to bring in Morrisroe and Wenger. Randy Beard (left) singled, followed by a single by Raphael Sanchez that plated Sydnor and gave Concord a 4-3 lead.

Seton Hill reclaimed the lead with three-run rally in the top of the 2nd that began with two outs and the bases empty, highlighted by Dave McCarthy's two-run single.

The Griffins added two more runs in the 3rd, then took control in the 4th. SHU scored seven runs, aided by four Concord errors. Michael Leviseur delivered the biggest blow, a two-out, three-run double.

Beard's RBI single in the bottom of the 5th drew Concord within 15-5, but the Griffins removed all doubt with a five-run rally in the top of the 6th, including a two-out, three-run home run by leadoff hitter Nick Erminio.

BOXSCORE / PLAY-BY-PLAY

The second game was scoreless until Seton Hill broke out for five runs the top of the 3rd. Nate Defllippi had an RBI single and Jared Littler hit a grand-slam home run.
But then the rains came, and the game was ruled to be "halted."

Up next for Concord is a three-game WVIAC series against West Virginia Wesleyan at Anderson Field on Saturday and Sunday, March 19 and 20. Saturday features a seven-inning doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm; the series concludes with a single nine-inning game Sunday at Noon. Admission is free.
