Basketball's scoring system is pretty simple, and the game does not award extra points for style.

Concord's Women's Basketball team took a methodical approach to Monday's WVIAC matchup against 14th-place Alderson-Broaddus, grinding out a much-needed 64-53 victory at the Carter Center.

The Lady Lions (11-9, 8-8) never trailed after taking a 14-12 lead a little more than eight minutes into the game. CU would lead by as many as 12 points, but couldn't breathe easily against the persistent Lady Battlers easily until Sidney Lindsey's layup put Concord ahead 62-53 with 1:59 remaining in regulation.

Amanda Peoples sank 4-5 three-point shots in the 1st half to keep A-B (2-19, 2-15) in the game. Concord led 34-27 at the break, and the Lady Battlers would close within 37-34 on another People's three-pointer three minutes into the 2nd half.

But that would be Peoples' last long-distance shot of the night. Meanwhile, Concord turned to its front line to extend its lead. Two jumpers from center Jolysa Brown, and shots from forwards Sidney Lindsey and Kristin Kidd, put CU ahead 45-34 with 15:02 to go.

A-B hung around, getting within 53-48 at the 9:39 mark after the second of back-to-back three-pointers from Erica Brooks. But Lindsey countered with a three-pointer on CU's next possession, and she went on to score the Lady Lions' last 11 points.
